A Day in the Life of an Emergency Plumber in Alexandria
When we think of jobs that really tackle the emergencies in our communities, we tend to think of emergency services personnel- people like police officers, ambulance officers and fire fighters. But have you ever thought about emergency plumbers? Or until we follow the trail of an emergency plumber personally! We had one opportunity just recently when we caught up with Tim, an Alexandria emergency plumber.
"I've been an emergency plumber now for 15 years, but must admit that there's always a huge range of plumbing emergencies that we could be called out to in Alexandria," says Tim. "I can be called out to jobs in areas including Newtown, Erskinville, Kensington, Centennial Park, Redfern, Darlington, St Peters, Rosebury, Marrickville and the Eastern Suburbs."
And just as we were talking, he received a message calling him out to a job in Alexandria.
"One of the local restaurants down there has just reported a broken toilet," said Tim. "Now because it's just gone 6pm and it's a Friday night, well, it's busy. Thankfully they do have another toilet on site, but we'll need to get out there right away so it doesn't disrupt business too much."
We jump in the work truck and headed out to the restaurant, and right away you can tell the manager is happy to see us.
"As you can imagine, Friday night- dinner time- it's about as busy as we can get!" said the manager. "A toilet not working is inconvenient, so getting an emergency plumber out was really important, especially when it is the female toilets!"
This was a really straight forward job to fix, and Tim had the toilet fully functional again in about 20 minutes. Diners didn't even notice a problem as they enjoyed their meals, in complete oblivion!
